Tawhida Ben Cheikh celebrated by Google Doodles on her special day
A picture of Tunisian doctor Tawhida Ben Cheikh appeared on Google search as a Doodle. She was born on January 2, 1909, in Tunis. She is considered the first Tunisian graduated from high school, with her mother’s support since 1928.
Dr. Ben Cheikh was not satisfied with some traditional limits, and restrictions related to women were broken. She obtained her medical diploma in Paris in 1936 at the age of 27. In the same year, she returned to the homeland and opened her clinic free of charge, to enter the history as the first Tunisian doctor in the field of obstetrics and gynecology.
She held the position of head of the obstetrics department, at the Charles Nicole Hospital in Medina in 1955. The Tunisian doctor founded the first family planning clinic in Tunisia.
For its part, Google chooses to celebrate today in its own way on Thursday, March 27, 2021. The one-year anniversary of the launch of the Central Bank of Tunisia of a 10-dinar official banknote bearing the image of the icon of medicine in Tunisia.
